Benzema Ties Raul as Second Highest Goal Scorer for Real Madrid
Real Madrid Star Karim Benzema reached a milestone during the league match with bottom-dwelling Levante and became the second-highest goal scorer for the team. The 34-year-old Benzema scored his 323rd goal to share this milestone with the great Raul González.
Benzema headed in the match’s second goal in the 19th minute to reach this honor. However, former Real Madrid legend Christiano Ronaldo still leads the list with a staggering 451 goals. The game also witnessed some other great performances, including the hat-trick by Vinicius Junior.
The Real Madrid forward scored 44 goals in their home campaign and has played a vital role in bringing the club to the La Liga finals. They will be facing Liverpool in Paris in two weeks.
The courtesy match against Levante seemed almost one-sided as Real Madrid’s left-back, Ferland Mendy, put pressure on, scoring in the 13th minute. A header followed the first goal in the 19th minute by Karim Benzema. More shockers from Rodrygo and Vinicius put Real Madrid in a 4-0 lead when the first half ended.
Vinicius Junior continued his riot in the second, scoring 2 more goals to get the first hat-trick of his career. The bottom-of-the-table Levante moved closer to relegation after finishing the match 0 to 6 against the top-dwellers. Luka Modric became the first player since 2015 to contribute three assists in a single La Liga match.
Levante still has a chance to avoid relegation by winning all the remaining matches. Benzema, who scored the second goal, also contributed an assist that brought Vinicius Junior his second goal.
In the post-match interview, Vinicius Junior said that he did not know Benzema reached such a milestone during the match as he scored so many goals and other things for the team. He also expressed his delight at scoring his first-ever “Real Hat-trick.” Vinicius hopes to prepare for the Champions League Finals as they finish their last La Liga match.
