FIFA World Cup 2022: Deserving Switzerland took the win against Cameroon
Switzerland defeated Cameroon 1-0, maintaining its winning streak.
Cameroon is currently ranked 43rd in FIFA, while Switzerland is currently ranked 15th; however, Cameroon’s head coach, Rigobert Song, entered the field with the firm belief that their ranking will not deter them from getting a lead and standing tall against Switzerland in the Al Janoub Stadium for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Switzerland got off to a good start as Xherdan Shaqiri advanced the ball while Cameroon cleared its lines. Switzerland held only 41% of the ball through the first 30 minutes of the match, but Cameroon had three shots to Switzerland’s one and got their hands more comfortable on the ball.
Collins Fai of Cameroon was shown a yellow card for a dangerous challenge on Nico Elvedi forty minutes into the encounter. There was no score on the scoreboard after the first half of play since neither team was able to score, leaving the score tied at zero.
Breel Embolo and Shaqiri together made efforts to secure the first goal in the 48th minute and take a step towards winning. Although he did not celebrate his goal out of respect for Cameroon, its homeland.
Switzerland’s Nico Elvedi gets awarded the yellow card for a bad foul. Meanwhile, Switzerland made three substitutions, with Haris Seferovic, Noah Okiri, and Fabian Frei replacing Embolo, Shaqiri, and Sow. In contrast, Ondoua has replaced Martin Hongla on the Cameroon team. The substitutions, however, diminished the game’s intensity.
Cameroon struggled to overcome Switzerland’s goal in the final 13 minutes as this would be their eighth consecutive world cup loss.
Cameroon had an opportunity to turn the game for six minutes, but they did not appear to score and their ball movement remained sluggish.
Embolo made a crucial contribution to Switzerland’s victory in Group G, and as a result, Switzerland moved closer to winning the World Cup. Cameron was disappointed because Breel Embolo, who was born in Cameroon, was the sole player that helped Switzerland advance.
