DraftKings and BetMGM plan to expand in North Carolina

Sports bettors in North Carolina won’t have to wait until the Super Bowl to place their wagers, but the state is hopeful that it will be able to open its online sports gambling before the highly anticipated March Madness. This development is due to the strategic cooperation between major online sportsbooks, DraftKings and BetMGM, which helped these companies establish themselves in the Tar Heel State.

BetMGM, an industry frontrunner in iGaming and sports wagering, has formally declared a collaborative partnership with Charlotte Motor Speedway, a prominent venue for motorsports and entertainment. This collaboration aims to offer BetMGM’s online sports betting platform to North Carolina, assuming that the state legalizes bookmakers. 

According to the latest casino news, Greg Walter, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, expressed great enthusiasm regarding the agreement. Should it be executed successfully, it will contribute to the enhancement of North Carolina’s tax base, support educational institutions in their endeavors, and facilitate the hosting of major sporting events.

According to Adam Greenblatt, the CEO of BetMGM, the partnership satisfies the substantial entertainment demand in North Carolina. He underscored the dedication to delivering an exceptional and conscientious gaming product that will be of assistance to state agencies of all kinds.

At the same time, DraftKings, a prominent digital sports entertainment and gaming company, announced its presence in North Carolina through a collaboration with NASCAR. The written designation included in this agreement is a substantial advancement toward DraftKings commencing operations in that particular state. 

DraftKings North America President Matt Kalish emphasized the company’s dedication to improve fan experiences and expressed excitement about the launch of their most popular mobile sportsbook in North Carolina.

North Carolina would enter operation on January 11, coinciding with the company’s planned entry into Vermont, thereby becoming the 27th state in which DraftKings Sportsbook is operational.

The 2024 North Carolina Sports Betting Committee convened, and these developments took place. Initially, it was believed that sports betting would start after the Super Bowl, but the schedule has changed, and June 14 will be a new date. The state is now racing against time to conclude plans for launching internet sports betting by March Madness, preferably.

The application process has garnered the interest of seven operators, including BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, Fanatics, and ESPN BET. Regulatory compliance is difficult, but all North Carolina operators must thoroughly understand and abide by its laws and regulations.

Additionally, FanDuel and the PGA Tour intend to capitalize on their existing partnership in order to enter the North Carolina sports wagering market.
