England Announce 15-Member Squad for Champions Trophy 2025, Jos Buttler to Captain
England has announced its squads for ODI and T20I for the upcoming Indian tour which will start next month along with the 2025 Champions Trophy. Wicket-keeper and batter Jos Buttler has been selected as the team’s captain who will be leading the site during the marquee event. The selection panel has picked the same squad of 15 members who will be travelling to India for 3 ODIs in mid-February 2025.
Key Players Included in England’s Champions Trophy Squad
The experienced batsman Joe Root has returned to ODI after featuring last in the format of the Cricket World Cup 2023 of the ICC Men campaign. England were the winners of the 2019 edition who crashed out from the tournament after winning only 3 out of 9 matches.
The 33-year old batsman, Root has played over 170 ODIs and scored 6522 runs at 47.60 average including 39 half-centuries and 16 centuries.
Jos Buttler who is known as the regular skipper led both the white-ball squads. featuring a blend of experience and youth. The two squads are mostly the same apart from Root since he was selected only for the Champions Trophy and ODIs while the 20-YO spinner Rehan Ahmed will be featuring only in the T20I squad.
Other notable inclusions for the India tour and Champions Trophy 2025 are Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, and Mark Wood.
Ben Stokes, the all-rounder player, will not be considered due to his injury in the left hamstring which occurred during the third test match between England and New Zealand. England’s Preparations and India Tour Schedule
During a press release, it was confirmed that the English squad will leave for a white ball tour on 17 January and reach four days before the first of the five day T20Is.
The T20Is will start from 22 January 2025 at Eden Garden in Kolkata and continue for five T20Is till 2 February 2025 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The ODIs will begin on 6 February 2025 at VCA Stadium in Nagpur followed by the 2nd ODI on 9 February 2025 at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, and the 3rd ODI on 12 February at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is will have a well-balanced squad between youth and experienced with players like Rehan Ahmed for T20I and seasoned veterans like Joe Root.
