Euro 2024 insights: Germany vs Hungary – June 19, 2024

The Euro Cup 2024 is moving ahead, especially in Group A, where Germany and Hungary locked horns for their second fixture of the tournament. Germany were the favorites right from the beginning, and the team stood by it throughout the 90-minute run. Hungary had to settle for a goalless chase, marking their second consecutive loss. This eliminates their chances of advancing to the Euro Cup 2024.

Switzerland and Scotland are very much in the contest, except for Germany, which has booked a spot on the road ahead.

Matchday 2 of 3 saw several events, but the one between Germany and Hungary stood out as the hosts were on the field in front of their local fans. Jamal did not disappoint, and neither did Gundogan. Both of them found the back of the net in the first and second halves of the game. While Jamal scored an opener in the 22nd minute, Gundogan managed to give his team a lead in the 67th minute.

Dynamics have changed, except for Germany. Previously, the expectation was that the team would climb a ladder regardless. Hungary could not get a send-off after meeting Scotland on the final matchday of the group stage. Scotland’s prospects are not particularly promising. They have to win the next game by a huge margin, and Switzerland must lose the next game by a broader deficit.

Germany was on the field with a moneyline of -350, and the score prediction was 2-1 in favor of the hosts. The moneyline was +500 for a draw and +850 for Hungary’s win. These have been drawn as an average from some of the best football betting sites. Interestingly, both teams found themselves in a scoring position. It was only Germany that came up with a double, as Hungary left the field without being able to fool the opponent’s keeper.

MPHArena hosted the second group event for both teams in the Euro Cup 2024. Germany and Hungary last met on September 23, 2022, in the UEFA Nations League, with Hungary emerging victorious by 1-0. It is safe to conclude that Germany has written off that loss with a much-anticipated redemption.

Germany dominated the match with a possession rate of 70%, leaving the remainder for Hungary. They were also able to take more shots, as 7 out of 19 went to the target. Hungary took 11 shots, sending 4 of them to the target.

Scotland and Switzerland landed a draw with one goal each. So did Croatia and Albania, with two goals each. Upcoming events in Euro 2024 are between Slovenia & Serbia and Denmark & England, among many others. The top teams will advance to the Round of 16, after which they will compete in the Quarter-Final for a spot in the Semi-Final.
