Euro 2024 qualifying game: Scotland defeats Spain 2-0

It was a much-awaited Football match that was to be played out with Scotland opposing Spain in the qualifying round match. The end of the match saw the team Scotland defeating the team Spain with a final score of 2:0, in favor of the Scotland team. This happened to have been the prestigious Euro 2024 qualifying game.

The spotlight happened to have been on Scott McTominay of Scotland, who successfully managed to score both goals, one goal in each half of the game. The game was played at the famous Hampden Park.

Scott, who happens to be a Manchester United midfielder, also happened to have scored two well-placed goals against the team from Cyprus. This time over, he managed to score his first goal right in the 7th minute of the match. From the side of Spain, hardened players like Stuart Armstrong, as well as Ryan Christie and Lyndon Dykes did their utmost to block the advancement of the opposing team, but with little luck. Steve Clarke’s team still feels heavy on them.

It happened to have been a dual play between Scott and Kieran Tierney, where the ball was duly side-swiped by the latter to the former, who managed to net the ball. This happened to be the very first time Scotland managed to defeat Spain, ever since the year 1984. A really great moment for the team indeed and a massive achievement by all measures. The odds at football betting sites were turbulent, as both the teams were doing good and it was hard to predict the winner. It seemed like the situation was ordained, with Scott having taken the place of Ryan Jack, during the course of the game.

The team Spain happened to have carried out eight alterations, following their win over Norway, with a scoring of 3:0, in their favor. Scotland, on its part, began the match on a firm footing. Angus Gunn, who happens to be the goalkeeper of the team of Scotland, also did an excellent job in stemming the charging onslaught of the Spaniards. A fact in point is him successfully blocking a header by Joselou, which for a moment seemed indeed next to impossible.

While speaking on Sky Sports News, the former Scotland International player, David Marshall, mentioned the fact that, in his opinion, this winning was by no means due to a streak of luck. The side, he insisted, deserved every bit of the victory as they had managed to play a consistently impressive game.

However, he also happened to have sent a warning to the team that they would have to do better than earning their six points which would not suffice for qualifying. It is no surprise that the Man of the Match title went to Scott. As for Luis de la Fuente, the Spain boss, this match was not to be looked at too deeply as the team had once again played their best, and the doors had not shut completely for them. The field still remained open.
