On Friday, November 22, Fernando Blaster was as flamboyant as it gets and won the heat of the Group 3 Casino Cup in record time. Fernando finished the 484m track in a record time of 27.08 sec, breaking the earlier record set by Cosmic Bonus (27.15s). Short Pork in (27.55s) and Cairnlea Blue in (27.85s) were other heats of the Cup.
Fernando Blaster is the son of Fernando Bale-Amy Lyndan and currently holds a record of 17 wins in 39 starts. The total amount on it till now, in stakes, is $114,000. In its 2nd last run, Fernando Blaster leveled the record of Champagne Sally in 520m track in the heat of the Cup. Before this, it grabbed the 1st place in the Group 2 Lismore Gold Cup final. Its owner, Sydney-based Merv Papworth, exclaimed with joy and stated that Fernando’s swashbuckling record run was yet an exceptional ride with the dog.
Speaking about how he got Fernando, Merv said,
Jordan and his wife Lyn bred continues to train the dog till now. And also accompanies it in the races.
Papworth went on to add that he is 76 now and not comfortable in traveling to different venues for races. He has only watched a couple of races of Blaster. Once at Wentworth Park in the Derby final and the other in the Maitland Cup final. However, Blaster was unfortunate to lose both of them by a narrow margin.
