FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: More teams enter top 16
The Round of 16 in FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will commence on August 05, 2023. This will see teams advancing from the group stage. Norway and Switzerland from Group A were the first ones to qualify. They are now accompanied by Japan and Nigeria in the category. These four teams will compete for a spot in the quarter-finals. Spain and Switzerland will lock horns on August 05, 2023, after which it will be Japan versus Norway.
Two more teams have made it to the Round of 16 – Australia and Nigeria. These teams hail from Group B, with Aussies being the only co-host in the top 16. New Zealand lost their chance of advancing to the next stage after landing a goalless draw against Switzerland. Japan and Spain registering a qualification mark the end of stage matches for Group C. Five more groups are to play their last matches – D, E, F, G, and H.

Australia qualified after facing Canada in the last match. The spot was at risk when they lost 2-3 to Nigeria in the second event. The goal difference was back to square one since their victory against Ireland was 1-0. The 4-0 win over Canada made sure that the co-hosts kept the chances of lifting the title alive.
Nigeria had a rough time during stage matches. It landed a draw in the first match and then again in the last match. It was a matter of points that they made it to the next Round. The only team they beat was the co-hosts. Every other draw was without a goal. Meaning all 3 goals came in just a single match of the stage phase.
Japan is the only team in the Round of 16 at the time of drafting this article, which has won all of its group matches. This makes them the highest points scorers till now with 9 points in the register. Interestingly, the same group has Costa Rica, a team to have lost all its stage matches at the time of drafting this article. Also, Japan has one of the highest goal differences of 11 to their name. The US may be everyone’s favorite, but Japan is strengthening its image on FIFA betting sites with such a performance. It is only a matter of time before they replace the US as the favorite team to lift the title.
Spain was almost in the Round of 16. They just had to make sure that they played. With 6 points on the table against their name, Spain have carved their name for further qualification. Spain lost the only match in the group phase, and that was against Japan. They had big victories before that against Costa Rica and Zambia.
