FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: Road to Semi-Finals begin
A lot of female football players have made it to the Quarter-Finals of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Just another step and half of them will go on to compete in the Semi-Finals. The second knockout stage begins on August 11, 2023, and ends on August 12, 2023. A total of 8 teams will compete for the 4 top spots. Needless to say, the remaining 4 teams will have no other option but to introspect and come back stronger in the next edition.
The first event will be played between Spain and the Netherlands. Spain secured a massive win versus Switzerland. There was a GD of 4 goals after Laia Codina found her own net by mistake. That was an equalizer in the 11th minute which could have taken the game to any point. Fortunately for them, Alba Redonto brought the light back to the darkness by scoring a goal in the 17th minute.
The Netherlands kept South Africa goalless throughout the 90-minute run. Their double helped them clinch a smooth victory in the Quarter-Finals of the global tournament.
Both teams will look to lock horns in the opener of the second knockout stage. Chances are that Spain will carry forward the momentum with the Netherlands struggling to keep up with its defense. The penalty is less likely, but it is still not something that can be ignored.
Japan and Sweden will play the follow-up. Japan has been exceptional with its gameplay. This is evident from the fact that they ended their group stage at the top with three clean victories. Also, Hinata Miyazawa is leading the list of top scorers in the current football World Cup with 5 goals to her name.
What gives Sweden some hope is their brave fight against the US. They were solely responsible for putting an end to the dominance of the team that had won the title 4 times. However, they are now against the team which lifted the cup in 2011 and are desperate to bring it home after a decade.
England and Columbia could have a clear winner in the form of the English team emerging victorious without taking it to the penalty round. Columbia may have brought Jamaica to their knees as England struggles against Nigeria. They are still the favorites on FIFA betting sites to advance to the next stage of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Both will contest for the spot on August 12, 2023.
Australia and France will be a close call. It will also be a match that everyone looks up to in the coming days. Co-hosts have their pride at stake since they have made it to the Quarter-Finals in front of their domestic fans. France, on the other hand, wants to redeem the loss that their men’s team went through against Argentina.
France had a 4-0 win against Morocco. So did Australia against Denmark, even though it was by a smaller margin. This will be the last event of the Quarter-Finals and also the most interesting one.
The road to the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is heating up, and one of the standout performances came from Australia qualify with a 2-0 victory, securing their spot and advancing further in the tournament.
