IPL 2023: Shardul Thakur helps KKR register 81-run win vs. RCB
The IPL cricket match between RCB and KKR proved to be a tough run for du Plessis-led Bangalore.
The team managed to restrict KKR’s top order but could not stop Shardul Thakur’s heroics toward the end of the inning. The all-rounder, traditionally known for bowling, scored a viral 68 off only 29 balls.
Supported by Rahmanullah Gurbaz (57 off 44) and Rinku Singh (46 off 33), KKR managed to post a convincing score of 204 for 7. In return, RCB fell 81 runs short despite boasting one of the best batting lineups in the competition.
Shardul Thakur won the player of the match for an all-round performance. The player also got a wicket for KKR in a 2-over spell that only conceded 15 runs. Despite being a capable all-rounder, Shardul was not on many’s lists as the top fantasy pick.
In fact, most fans and betting enthusiasts who keep a close eye on betting sites for cricket have picked players like Faf du Plessis, Sunil Narine, and Virat Kohli as their captains. While all three of these names managed to get a start, their performance paled in comparison to Shardul Thakur.
Starting the run chase, it was the in-form Faf du Plessis who tried to take charge. However, the South African could only reach 23 off 12 before getting bowled by Varun Chakaravarthy.
Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell joined du Plessis in the dugout in a similar fashion. All three top-order batsmen got bowled to a traditional off-spin. David Willey was the only player that touched 20 runs after Kohli and du Plessis, leaving RCB at a score of 123 all-out.
The win has brought KKR to the third spot on the table with the highest net run rate in the competition, +2.056. On the other hand, RCB has slipped to the 7th spot with an NRR of -1.256.
