Kane Williamson will miss ODI World Cup 2023 due to IPL 2023 injury
Kane Williamson sustained an injury to his right knee while fielding for the Gujarat Titans in the opening fixture of the TATA IPL 2023 against the Chennai Super Kings on March 31, 2023. According to scans and a statement released by the management of the New Zealand team, Kane has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament. Now, if standard timelines are anything to go by, then it appears that Kane Williamson will be unavailable for the selection of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 India.
Kane Williamson is an opponent one can never hate. As a matter of fact, the entire New Zealand team remains the most respected and favorite team across the globe, no matter the nationality of the fan. The team has rightly earned everyone’s heart by working hard and staying true to their playing techniques. However, the current loss of Kane Williamson remains a personal loss for them that fans can only sympathize with.
The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India is set for the October-November 2023 period. Surgery for Williamson is expected to happen in the next three weeks, following which the rehabilitation period will begin. Williamson is disappointed for missing out on both tournaments but says the focus is more on going through the surgery and beginning rehab to get back on the field at the earliest.
Find it odd, but there is no doubt that people across the world are looking forward to having Williamson back in action. That is the level of love and respect that he has earned with his dedication to the sport and the team.
Williamson’s absence from the World Cup was informed to him by the management of the New Zealand team, which said that the standard rehab timeline meant that he was unlikely to be fit and available for selection.
The former NZ test captain has thanked the management of the Gujarat Titans and the New Zealand cricket team for extending their support over the past few days.
Disappointed with the injury, definitely, but that attempt did not go in vain. This fielding attempt by Williamson motivated the team to put up their greatest effort against the four-time IPL champions. In 19.2 overs, GT was able to chase down the mark of 179 and secure a 5-wicket victory. GT had won the toss and asked CSK to bat first. This made sense, given that CSK’s bowling unit is relatively weak at the moment. Several online cricket betting sites predicted CSK to win, provided they bowl first. The big hitters in CSK could have tuned the match differently.
Shubham Gill’s outstanding 63 off 36 balls gave GT a winning advantage. Rashid Khan caused further harm by making powerful shots on three balls. Together with Mohammad Shami and Alzarri Joseph, he also claimed two wickets.
Now, Williamson is out of the IPL 2023 and the World Cup 2023, with fans waiting for him to make a comeback at the earliest.
