Kane Williamson sustained an injury to his right knee while fielding for the Gujarat Titans in the opening fixture of the TATA IPL 2023 against the Chennai Super Kings on March 31, 2023. According to scans and a statement released by the management of the New Zealand team, Kane has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament. Now, if standard timelines are anything to go by, then it appears that Kane Williamson will be unavailable for the selection of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 India.

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India is set for the October-November 2023 period. Surgery for Williamson is expected to happen in the next three weeks, following which the rehabilitation period will begin.
