Maverick McNealy Favored as Mexico Open at VidantaWorld Tees Off

This week, the PGA tour will return to Mexico for the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld. It will be the final event before the competition heads east. Maverick McNealy, who nearly won the second trophy at the final round 64, is the clear favorite at +1200 odds.

The competition will have a tight duel with Maverick and Rasmus Hojgaard, along with other champions, in 2025.

Mexico Open is scheduled for 20 February 2025 to 23 February 2025, which is why punters should start gearing up for the best betting odds, best values, and picks.

Top Players and Tournament Overview

Jake Knapp comes at +5000, which is quite intriguing, given that it is a low-hanging fruit and he is the defending champion. Currently, he ranks in the top 20 at the Genesis Invitational, although it is a weak field, the price is quite good considering that there are not many winners for the game.

Maverick McNealy is one of the top choices for Mexico at VidantaWorld, followed by Rasmus Hojgaard. He also secured 6 top-25s during his last 7 times teeing up while the other top contenders included – Kurt Kitayama, Akshay Bhatia, and Sam Stevens.

Six of the seven champs in the tournament are international players, including Hariss English, who is the only American emerging as the winner.

Jake Knapp, the only defending champ, was at his best in terms of tee-to-green and ball striking at the venue a year ago.

Mexico doesn’t draw top players with a $7 million prize, which is quite small for the tour. But with the $1.5 million prize for the winner, along with the 500 FedExCup points, this tournament will become one of the fierce competitions for several second-tier professionals ranking among the top 100 in the world.

McNealy made a strong performance at the Genesis Invitational by finishing runner-up, the season’s third Signature Event. He nearly won the second trophy in the final round and is a clear favorite for many punters over Rasmus Hojgaard. Although he missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational by 11 strokes, his previous strong performances have still kept him at +1700.

Patrick Rodgers’ Potential Breakthrough

The 32-year-old American professional golfer, Patrick Rodgers, had an impressive college career at Stanford, where he won 11 times and tied the record that Tiger Woods set. Although he could not translate that to the PGA Tour, he nearly accomplished that this Sunday and held his lead to enter the final round. His near win at the Genesis Invitational made him one of the best golfers, especially when the golf’s best was starting to falter. His strong track record at Vidanta Vallarta was noteworthy, with three top-10 finishes. Currently, his favorable odds stand at +2500.

Past Mexico Open at VidantaWorld Winners

The list of past winners of the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld includes –

  • Jake Knapp (2024)
  • Tony Finau (2023)
  • Jon Rahm (2022)

The Mexico Open competition has only been contested three times, with John Rahm winning the first, followed by Tony Finau, and then Jake Knapp, the defending champion.

Predictions, Picks, and Value Bets

  • Jake Knapp (+5000): Jake Knapp is the defending champion who has come off the top-20 finish at the Genesis Invitational with a strong ball striking. He currently holds betting odds of +5000.
  • Michael Thorbjornsen (+6500): Michael is also in the top spot in the PGA Tour University rankings, whose potential is purely based on talent.
  • Erik van Rooyen (+8000): The two-time PGA Tour champion, Erik, has a strong ball striking at the venue. He finished T-8th last year.

The Vidanta Vallarta signature course at Vidanta Nuevo Nayarit-Vallarta winds along the Ameca River, providing views of the Sierra Madre mountains from every hole, uninterrupted by housing and civilization throughout. The 7,436-yard par 71 was designed by Greg Norman in 2015. There will be dozens of Latin American and non-US players in the 132-player field.
