The Challenges of a Short Training Camp

The bantamweight champ, Merab Dvalishvili defended his belt for the very first time against the Russian professional MMA, Umar Nurmagomedov on Saturday night.

Dvalishvili secured the belt at UFC 306 straight from Sean O’Malley in September, and since then he has proved to be passionate but wants some additional time in order to recover from the lingering discomfort before the fight started. However, as soon as Nurmagomedov wanted an early date because of the upcoming Ramadan, which would disturb his training, the Ultimate Fighting Championship forced the pressing issue.

Dvalishvili’s decision to step up to the occasion and admit that you would enter the octagon, even with minor injuries despite having limited recovery time proved his commitment.

Fans started to become concerned when he talked about requiring treatment in one of his videos during Christmas. He admitted that he was denied access to the UFC Performance Institute when his opponent was allowed to train there. This made headlines.

Since then he has reiterated his claim, which made fans speculate as to what can be the issues in question. During an interaction with the media in an interesting chat about his role as the Stake Ambassador, he mentioned that he refused to discuss his injury as it would panic his fans.

The UFC puts title fights on PPV (pay-per-view) which means he could have competed next month in Sydney at UFC 312 or in March in Vegas at UFC 313, and still remain active for three fights.

“When I said fight February or March, he said February fight was in Australia and March was Ramadan. I had no idea because last year, Ramadan was in May. It’s not my problem also – I’m a champion.

“So Umar wanted to fight January, and UFC asked me. Then I went to UFC and I said, OK, I will step up. I love UFC so no problem.”
