Oregon Lottery Delays the Launch of Sports Betting App
A member of the Multi-State Lottery Association Oregon Lottery is run by the government of Oregon in the US. The Oregon Lottery was officially releasing a sports betting app before the regular season of NFL on September 5.
It will be the first attempt for the Oregon Lottery to enter the e-Commerce industry. But the customers of sports betting may have to wait a little longer to use the app by Lottery. It wanted to roll out sports betting app “Scoreboard” during this football season. But it seems that the app won’t go live till the end of September or mid-October. Oregon Lottery is making sure that all the parts of the technology are working at the highest level.
The staff members of the Lottery told the commissioner in a recent meeting that running the application properly is a big task, which involves a large team with multiple vendors. He further added that the application is in the testing phase. Although the app is ready, there is still a lot of work left before it goes live.
John Canzano, the Oregonian said that he had not expected the process of the sports betting app to be completed before the NFL season, but the delay could be taken as a positive sign for the industry.
Oregon Lottery has officially confirmed at the beginning of the year that the smartphone-based betting would go live during the opening day of NFL. The Lottery manager of sports, Kerry Hemphill had announced on August 30 that despite 40 employees are working full time for the app, it is still in the testing mode and won’t be ready in late-September or October. Kerry Hemphill said that the app needs to function exactly the way it is supposed to.
Matt Shelby said that Lottery is trying to build a shelf sports betting application with the help of its vendor SB Tech to develop an eCommerce platform for handling registration and payment verification for the Oregon players to place bets. Meanwhile, players can visit here, some of the top sports betting websites and start placing the bets after registration process is completed.
Shelby added that the app needs further testing on the operation of various systems which needs to be connected and within a few weeks, the app will be available in the Apple store. He also said that the date for the release of the app was at the beginning of NFL season as Lottery had thought the testing and the product would drive well.
Chinook Winds Casino bet the Oregon Lottery in the market place as it has already launched the sports betting app on August 27 in the Lincoln City. The customers of the Lottery App will be allowed to play from anywhere in the State. The staff of Lottery told the commissioner that they wouldn’t allow any illegal betting on the Lottery App Scoreboard.
The App launched by the Oregon Lottery will earn a profit of $37 million to 1.6 billion through sports betting in the first three years after its launch. The profit earned from the App will be provided to the public employees who make lump sum contributions to the pension account.
