Scottie Scheffler: The Golfer to Beat at the WM Phoenix Open

The Scottie Scheffler season has undeniably been amazing with his jaw-dropping 8 wins in PGA Tours, including the Masters Tournament and his dominant performance and skill have earned him the FedExCup title. His incredible skill and consistency off and on the course have made him unbeatable in this sport. His remarkable season has left his peers and betting enthusiasts in awe but will he be a clear favorite at the upcoming WM Phoenix Open? This article will focus on his comeback and excellent performance so far which makes him the world’s number one ranked golfer.

Scheffler’s Reign: Echoes of Tiger Woods?

The world’s number one golfer, Scottie Scheffler currently enjoys an amazing streak similar to Tiger Woods’ glory days. Since November 2024, Scheffler has dominated the PGA Tour and racked up 8 wins which included two major championships and an Olympic gold added to his resume. His dominance at every golf tournament has made him compared to Tiger Woods. His recent wins and performances have placed him as the clear favorite at any tournament that he enters, including the impending WM Phoenix Open, which was scheduled for 6 February 2025. Scheffler has once again emerged as the player to beat having betting odds settling at around 3-1.

Focused on the Game, Not the Odds

Even amidst the excitement surrounding Scheffler’s betting odds, he maintains a level head regarding his potential outcomes and performance. He mentioned the growing presence of sports gambling surrounding golf and expressed his reluctance to bet on the sport. “At the end of the day, I don’t pay attention to any of it, but I couldn’t care less what I’m favored to win. It doesn’t mean anything. I start the tournament even par, so it doesn’t really matter.” His focus seems to be aligned solely with the tournament. Considering his impressive results and dedication to the game, it is clear why he chooses a simple approach and only aims at playing golf.

Comeback and Continued Excellence

Scheffler’s dedication to golf was quite evident after he suffered an accident before the holiday season that delayed his 2025 PGA Tour debut. The Son of Texas came out stronger to participate in competitive golf at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. This is where he found his ground and finished the game in a tie in the ninth place, leading the game with his simple approach.

The 28-year-old American played an extraordinary game in 2024, after emerging from a hibernation period of two months and romping to a 6-stroke victory at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Unlike the other victories in eight tournaments that he achieved in 2024, this was not notable, but the impact was felt all around. The tournament host Tiger Woods observed him and said, “He doesn’t really do anything wrong,”.

Banter and Personality Off the Green

Recently during Scheffler’s interaction on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, the 38-year-old American golfer, Billy Horschel made a playful ribbing of Scheffler’s exceptional golfing skills and made a witty remark, half-jokingly asking,  “Why are you so good?”. He also asked Scheffler why he could not win less to be more relatable. His jokes about Scheffler being “too good” and “selfish” for winning continued but Scheffler took all of it light-heartedly and replied, “I was very surprised when Billy saw a microphone. I feel like he had to say something. That was very unlike Billy.”

His relatable and easy-going personality shows his comfort whether he is on or off the course. He still continues building his reputation as the top performer in his field, making his way with peers.

Teeing Off at TPC Scottsdale
