USA leads Germany at United Cup after Fritz moves past Zverev
The United Cup Final Four begins this Friday. We have two teams that will face each other in a sport. Team USA will move on from Group C with 2-0 wins, as will Great Britain from Group D. Team USA tops the group after moving past Alexander Zverev of Germany.
The match took a tally of 6-1 and 6-4 after Fritz took advantage of the dominant serve.
This is the second win for Team USA after beating Jiri Lehecka in the opening match. Jiri, who lost to 25-year-old Fritz, represents the Czech Republic in the tournament. Fritz and Zverev are now 3-4 in their head-to-head statistics. Zverev fans saw him for the second time since June, when he suffered an ankle injury while competing against Rafael Nadal at the French Open.
Team USA won it in 64 minutes, courtesy of Fritz, who roughly won 96% of his first serve. Numerically, that comes to 26 out of 27 servings. He now faces Great Britain, which came after defeating Australia and Spain in Group D. The team that wins the next event qualifies for the United Cup Final Four, which is scheduled to start this Friday in Sydney.
Madison Keys is not far behind with a win of 2-0 after her 70-minute event showed the tally of 6-2 and 6-3. Jule Niemeier hails from Germany, now responsible for giving Keys her 2-0 victory in the tournament.
Keys fell 6 points behind on her first serve and served at 77%. Niemeier looked to struggle with her form, evident from the way she concluded the event. There are seven faults on the board, which are nearly double the point from where she started. Keys, in all honesty, got an early breakthrough on Niermeier’s three faults. Her chance to serve lacked rhythm, with no move to defend the shots.
Keys interacted with the media to say that she just tried to make as many first serves as possible to make things as easy as a tennis match could be.
With that, Fritz and Keys have given Team USA a lead of 2-0 each. The tournament started on December 29, 2022, and it is scheduled to conclude on January 8, 2023. Some of the best tennis betting sites see Team USA and Great Britain having memorable moments. Team USA has shown the potential to beat any team that comes its way, but Great Britain does come with an equally impressive record.
In Perth, Greece and Belgium played to a 1-1 draw. Tsitsipas has gained an advantage against Goffin, while Van Uytvanck has defeated Papamichail with scores of 6-3 and 7-5.
There are two upcoming matchups to monitor. One in which Jessica Pegula confronts Laura Siegmund, and the other in which Oscar Otte faces Francis Tiafore.
